After 4 1/2 years, it appears that my beloved desktop has died. It must have crashed somewhere between last week and last night. At this point I don’t know if it’s the motherboard, the HDD. It attempted to run windows once last night when I restarted it, but after that nothing happens. So now it’s off to get fixed. Hopefully, my hard drive is okay or recoverable. Because that’s years worth of photos, videos and documents on it.
I had talked to Kevin before he started with his new company and he asked me to just upgrade my RAM to give it a little boost in speed, but I hadn’t added any yet. I really wanted a new computer, so I could switch everything over to the new one and avoid this problem, but as you can see that never happened. So for now, I’m using the kids desktop that Santa brought them for Christmas.
Now I’m looking into not only recovering the contents of my HDD, but an online cloud storage/online backup for all my future documents, videos, and photos. A friend of mine back in Maryland works for a company that deals with recovering hard drives and online backup/cloud storage. So he was someone I contacted last night, when I found out about my poor baby.
I really am highly upset, because it gave no warnings that it was just going to die on me. It’s such a bummer. But I know that Kevin and I can afford to pay for the recovery efforts, which can cost anywhere from $400 to $4,000. While I don’t want to spend $4,000 on recovering the contents of my hard drive, I would do it in a heart beat because it has so many images of my children, so many Photoshop Actions that I’ve purchased or made. I just want to bang my head against any hard surface in this house, it will hurt less than losing all these precious images.
Well I guess I’ll go wait until my friend sends me the info that I need to make a decision.
I really hope everyone is having a better week than I am.
