Survival of Life as We Know it

Survival of Life as We Know it

The last two weeks I’ve been in “survival of like as we know it” mode. I’ve been running on little to no sleep, dealing with sick kids, grocery shopping with all the kids and without help, homework, bath time, laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning, etc.

There is nothing more stressful than not being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel while you’re going through whatever rough patch life has given you. But we’re doing the best we can with what life has handed us; as a family.

I miss spending time with Kevin. He’s always traveling, never home. But the money is where it’s at. The more he travels the more he makes. If he works non-stop for an entire month he can make a massive amount of money each month. The way his company has their pay rates set up, he earns base pay for up to 8 hours, time and a half up to 12 hours, and anything over 12 hours is double time. We’re hoping for him to level up to a 3rd tier employee within the next 6 to 8 months which would be a decent pay raise. Plus he’s paid government per diem rates when he travels outside of a certain distance from the East Coast office.

He’s also guaranteed 40 hours a week, each week regardless of if he works the whole week or not. Plus they’re getting at least 10 to 15 hours of overtime each week. I’ve told him to work as much as he can, so we can get rid of any and all debt possible. We have credit card bills, a personal loan, and my student loans that we’re working on paying off as soon as possible. We’re dedicating any extra money that we weren’t used to having to paying off the credit cards and loans. Once we’ve paid all those off we can finally decide on our living situation. We’re going to have it all paid off (minus the Maryland house) in March or April 2016; maybe sooner.

Life may not be the way we had planned it, but with all that we’ve been given recently… we’re bound to make this the life we want to live. We’ve struggled with things the last year, but our struggles have made us want to try harder, to do what we can for our family. This job is by far the best thing that’s happened to us this past year.

Soon enough, we’ll be able to have our dream home (whatever that might be). We just have to wait and see what our budget will allow and what kind of money he’s really going to be making with this new company. I’m so glad he’s finally back into dealing with generators, I know how much he really enjoyed the job he had while he was in the Marines. While it’s the the same, this is more electrical than mechanical… but so far he’s enjoying it.

Well I’m off to do laundry, decide on what I’m making the kids and I for dinner this evening.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.
